Labor Day has come and gone and you might be sitting there wondering where did your summer go? Don’t worry. Just because summer is coming to an end, doesn’t mean the fun has to. While some kids are back in school and others are learning at home, you can still take advantage of the warm weather and longer days for a little bit longer.
Here are a few simple ideas for you and the family to enjoy the final days of summer.
Ten ways to enjoy the final days of summer
1. Plan a backyard campout
The weather is cooling down and a backyard campout sounds much more bearable that it did in the midst of the summer heat. Grab the tent from the garage, a couple of sleeping bags and pillows and head to the backyard to become one with nature.
2. Go on a walk
A long walk in your neighborhood is just what you need to remind yourself that there is still plenty of summer left! Grab the whole family and see what new sights you can find in your very own neighborhood.
3. Plan a scavenger hunt
The great thing is that scavenger hunts for kids don’t really require that much. They’re easy, inexpensive, and can often be done using things you already have at home. Check out this list of fun scavenger hunt ideas to keep your kids guessing!
4. Buy some fresh produce
Figs and chili peppers are in season in our neck of the woods. Head out to your local farmer’s market and pick up some fresh produce. All the fruits and veggies plus the warm air will make it still feel like summer.
5. Go on a picnic
Take that newly purchased fresh produce and have a picnic outside. You can head to your local park or even better, have it in your backyard – no need to worry if you forgot napkins or drinks.
6. Host a socially distant cookout
Don’t put that grill away without using it at least a few more times. This will give you the chance to catch up with some friends you haven’t seen in a while. Ask guests to bring sides, desserts and drinks and you get to show off those grill master skills one more time this season.
7. Eat breakfast outside
The weather is finally cooling off (a little) and it’s the perfect excuse to eat your meals outside. When you wake up, pour yourself a cup of Joe and take those scrambled eggs outside. Trust us, coffee taste better in the fresh air.
8. Make a fall bucket list
One way to shake the metaphorical Sunday scaries of fall is to make an autumn bucket list. Get excited about all of the fun fall activities you have planned and those that you definitely want to make happen. If you are struggling to come up with ideas, try this list from Hello Little Home.
9. Have an outdoor movie night
Hang up a white sheet and use a projector to play your favorite family movie. Grab the blankets and lawn chairs so everyone has a seat and make sure you have those classic movie snacks to satisfy the whole family.
10. Look at the stars
Grab blanket and head outside to look at the stars. You can check out the American Meteor Society’s website and see if there are any upcoming meteor showers near you. Looks like the Orionids and Southern Taurids are the next on the list. But even if you can’t see any shooting stars, spending time outside with your loved ones is always worth it.
